Mahjong is a four-seat game. Table Mahjong always deals a full table of four: you plus friends, strangers from Quick Match, or bots in any empty chair. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download.
Table Mahjong is a free 4 player Hong Kong Mahjong game in your browser. Every hand has four seats. Play solo against three bots, join a public Quick Match, or create a private room and share a link or four-letter code with up to three friends. Bots take any seat nobody is sitting in.
Four players sit around a square wall of tiles. Each seat has a wind: East, South, West and North. East is always the dealer and plays first, and turns go counter-clockwise from there, so the player who discards just before you sits on your left.
On screen your seat is always at the bottom. The camera never spins round to a new chair; instead the wind labels move. The header shows your wind and who is dealing for the current hand, so you can tell at a glance whether a wind Pong will score for you.
| Seat | What it means in a hand |
|---|---|
| East (dealer) | Starts with 14 tiles and discards first. Keeps the deal after winning or after a drawn hand. |
| South, West, North | Start with 13 tiles. A Pong of your own seat wind is worth 1 faan. |
| Round wind | The prevailing wind for the round, shown in the header. A Pong of it is worth 1 faan to anyone, and East in an East round scores both. |
When anyone other than the dealer wins, the deal passes to the next seat and every seat wind moves on by one. A Single hand ends after one deal. An East-only match runs until the deal has passed four times, and a full match goes East, South, West and North, at least 16 hands.
You never wait for exactly four people. Any open chair gets a bot that draws, discards and calls Chow, Pong, Kong and wins under the same rules as a person.

Two or three friends? Bots take the rest. The host can set the bot level for the room.
Public tables use Normal bots for any seat that stays empty, so the hand still starts.
If a person drops out mid-hand, their seat is held for about two minutes so they can reconnect and carry on with the same tiles. If they do not come back, a bot takes over, and anyone at the table can tap Make AI to hand the seat over sooner.
Scores in a room are kept by the server for the whole session, so a refresh or a dropped connection does not lose the match. Private rooms have table chat; for the full walkthrough see the private room guide and playing with friends.
Quick Match is the public option. It seats you with other online players looking for a game. Everyone readies up, and if fewer than four people are waiting, bots take the remaining seats. Public tables are emotes only, with no text, voice or video chat, and everyone sees the standard table and avatars.
Use Quick Match when you want a game now and do not mind who sits down. Use a private room when you want to play with people you know.
The rules are Hong Kong / Cantonese: 144 tiles with flowers and seasons, claims for Chow, Pong and Kong, and faan scoring worked out for you at the end of the hand. A normal win is four sets and a pair. New to it? Read how to play, step by step, then the rules and faan scoring guide.
